I love the idea of creating a bingo sheet! May have to take that one on. My big goal this year is to learn to be gentle with myself. Self compassion and all that jazz. Also some creative goals like finishing a developmental edit on my novel and starting a draft of a new idea. I’d also love to get back to visual art in some way so I’m up for any ideas to jump back in after a huge hiatus.
YES TO ALL OF THIS!! Also if you’re looking for a way to get back into visual art, I recommend collage! I like getting a new sketchbook and filling some of the pages with collage stuff from random magazines, papers, etc. Then I’m not overwhelmed with planning WHAT to make because I know I’m just making whatever with the pictures I already have. It’s a focus on what do I like together rather than planning a whole big thing.
I made a bingo card for the first time this year, and I’m with you - getting as many bingos as possible is far more motivating to me than any particular treat, lol.
I’m totally gonna steal the bingo sheet idea. Also, it’s great to find another January lover! I adore at the beginning of the year setting my goals - and my planner 😍
This year I need to get the second draft of my fiction novel going (it was my last year’s goal too, I did some progress but not as much as I wanted to 🥲). And I want to keep on working on my newsletter (which I successfully started last year, so yay for that!)
brooke this is amazing! i started a bingo board last week and then with everything in la with the fires, i haven't finished it. this was great motivation though (and i will be using your listen to 10 new albums square!) adore you 🌟
omg absolutely — “dance, no one’s watching” is an amazing jazz album i listened to last week & i just listened to magdalena bay’s album from last year & really liked!
I bloody love New Year's resolutions. They are just so exciting! And I do roll my eyes at people who act like they are too good for New Year resolutions, or say they don't make them because breaking them makes them depressed. Because apparently no one anywhere ever kept a single of their New Year resolutions.
Having said all that, I chilled out with a detailed list this year. Last year I had a lovely list, and then ended up being sick for the first six months of the year (I have a deja vu, have I written this in a comment here before?), Anyway, most of my 2024 was pure survival, going through pneumonia, covid, tonsilitis. A round of antibiotics after another etc. It was dreadful. And in the second half of the year my toddler slept through the night maybe a total of 10 times. SO yeah. The only thing I succeeded in was the number of books read (as I read so much when stuck holding my daughter and waiting for her to fall back asleep at 3 am).
This year, I decided to sort of set intentions for 2025. And it's to 'focus and show up'. Be kind to myself and others, and spend less time on my phone. If I do all this, I think everything else will fall into place.
But I do also want to finish the 6 month illustration course I signed up to, I want to finally have some solid portfolio and write more substack posts!
I think the goals you have set this year are amazing! I’m so sorry that last year took a tough turn for you, I’m wishing you well in your health and wishing your toddler a good night’s sleep this year. ♥️ in goal setting, we have to account for the fact that life is gonna happen and unexpected factors may lead you to changing or putting goals on hold!
I love this! I am trying bingo cards this year and loving it! I decided to make a monthly one with smaller goals to help me stay motivated and focused. I also got a bingo dauber to make it extra fun. 🤩
Ok stop I’m OBSESSED with your board. The pictures are so eye catching and cute!! Also woobles taught me how to crochet so if that’s one of your goals I would say it’s a good one. :)
Also bingo daubers are an ESSENTIAL part of the practice if you ask me!
Aw thanks!! Yes, I was gifted the penguin Woobles years ago and started it and never got very far. So maybe not this month, but this is the year to finally do it! 😊🤞🏻
I’m obsessed with my dauber. I want to dot everything now. 😂
I've always loved January, but then my birthday is New Year's Day. And I am definitely pinching the bingo card idea! I look forward to seeing yours at the end of the year with all the blobs on it 😊
Love this! I already created a bingo card AND a collage this week. My favorite part is that I can hang out in the creative intention setting dreamy space without putting hard goals and milestones together (yet).
